A young woman has been brutally slain in a murderous act
involving asphyxiaphilia. A connection between the victim and England’s largest

read, read in just two days!, 18 Nov 2013
Asphyxia kept me entranced from page one. I finished the entire book in less
than two days. One of my favorite characters, Detective Jim Bannon, an
asthmatic, is in love with his boss's daughter. The gruff character of the boss
is not excited about that at all. Detective Bannon spends most of his time
trying to track down London's
serial killer who is deep into asphyxiaphillia, a dangerous game that ends in
murder. It appears he is getting his victims through a dating service.
This thriller has twists and turns along the way, a bit of dark humor, along
with some tragedy in the Detective's personal life. There is some erotica
mingled in the storyline at one point.
I can't say enough for the authors development of the characters. They are quite
entertaining to the reader even though people are dying. There are things going
on behind the scenes only the readers know for a while which is always
intriguing. I will certainly continue reading Hudson's work and I highly recommend this
The plot in this book
raced along at 100 miles an hour. This is the first book I read from this
author & I was left panting for more. Jim Bannon the Irish Detective has a
mullet which tells the reader that this is no ordinary crime novel. Gory,
hilarious & heartwarming. The fans of this are demanding more in this
I intended to just
read Chapter 1 (it was dinner time) but I read it from start to finish! It
grabbed me from the very beginning and just kept grabbing. This is definitely a
'must read'. By the way, hubby cooked dinner :-)
I was on the edge
from the very beginning. Putting down the book was virtually impossible. The
key character, is Jack Bannon. An Irish man who is a London Detective. He is
not your typical detective, something we learn from the very beginning. He
comes across cocky and balls to the wall, yet he is very human. All I can hope
is that this will not be the last we will hear from Jack Bannon. Thank you
Derrick Hudson for a fabulous read that kept me in rapt attention from
beginning to end... I just had to remember to breathe...
impossible to put down. Was difficult to stop for dinner and tea in between as
I was addicted.
Kept me guessing the whole way through and I was wrong in my prediction. Boy,
did I learn a thing or two though - 50 Shades of Education.....haha. Think I
would rather breathe during and after!! Fab, fab book and I have never read
thrillers before. Just your way of writing makes everything un-putdownable.
Not very often i try
a new author but oh my god, im glad i did a brilliant story, that keeps You engrossed !! I could not put it down, sexy and gory...loved it! Hope there is
going to be a bannon series!! Thank you author!!!

Saved this book for
my holidays and oy was I glad I did!
I read it in one sitting in the beautiful Montenegran sunshine.
Being a huge fan of Derick Hudson's other two books I just knew this one was
going to be good- I didn't realise quite how good though.
Whilst still retaining a similar writing style to his earlier books Hudson still managed to
to have you hanging onto the end of every sentence.
Fetishes might not appeal to every reader but I urge you to look beyond that
and read what is a fantastically written crime novel with a sense of humour
thrown in. Hudson
has the power to make you laugh and cringe in disgust all in one page. I think
Jim Bannon could be the character in lots more of Hudson's books to come.
Intense, dark, decadent, terrifying, witty, gripping, shocking and so the list
You will not regret purchasing any of Derick Hudson's books. Can't wait for his
next one, Infallible...
A well deserved 5 stars, keep them coming.
Having read Derrick
Hudson's 2 previous books (Dysfunctional Romance and Unholy Romance - which by
the way are brilliant too) I was intrigued to read this thriller. Whilst
writing this book Derrick Hudson entered a different realm of writing but yet
managed to keep some of his great humour to lighten the book a little. On whole
a very gripping thriller which is well written and keeps you on the edge until
the end - I can see this being the first in hopefully a long series of Jim
Bannon novels. I have no hesitation in recommending all Derrick Hudson's

a small and very Dark world we live in, 8 Aug 2013
I have thoroughly
enjoyed reading Asphyxia. It made me laugh and in places made me shiver in
disgust. Derick Hudson has done a good job of delving into the dark and
dangerous world of sexual fetishes. Some of the crime scenes are described in
great detail but I was kept guessing till the end as to who the culprit was.
I say its a small world because I was sat in Villa Martin square when reading
the book. Those of you who have read it will know the significance. Those of
you that haven't you will have to read it (winks)
Over all it is a funny thrilling and somewhat disturbing read and I can
recommend reading it.
This is the first
book I have read by Derick Hudson, and once started, I couldn't put the book
down. It is a gripping and fast-paced tale of perverted murders with plenty of
gore and populated with some very interesting characters. Not least is
Detective Jim Bannon, who is at the heart of this tale, and as we follow him in
his hunt for the deviant serial killer, we begin to learn a little more about
Jim's maverick character, in particular, the love of his life, which causes him
a few problems at work. I hope Mr Hudson will allow Detective Bannon to become
a regular in future tales, like the John Rebus series. I am really looking
forward to his next book, in the meantime I am going to purchase the previous
books by Mr Hudson.

DERICK HUDSON., 5 Aug 2013
After reading reviews
and dericks persistant promotion of his book on twitter, i was intrigued,
downdloaded onto my kindle . From the first chapter i was hooked, every chapter
i read i wanted know more, i loved the sarcasim and one liners from most of the
characters, i wanted the book to go on and on, i read it in one hit, staying up
till 4 a.m, well done derick. L.T. P.S. Will be reading all his books and would
love a follow up of asphyxia to keep the story going of the detective and soon
to be father in law lol.....
Asphyxia was a
completely different style of writing from Derick Hudson's usual style and I
loved it!! Have now purchased all this authors books. Cannot wait for the next
book and intrigued to see whether chic lit or thriller #anticipation.
New author for me so
always excited to read new material.
Gotta say, I love it!
Full of all the stuff i wanna read about. Crime, murder, sex (but not in a
Mills and Boon way)
Absolute delight to read. Will now be spending my hard earned cash on all of Mr

The only reason I didn't give this 5 stars was the ending seemed a little
rushed & a tad convenient.
Found this author via
Twitter, it seemed like the type of book I like to read, so I thought I'd give
it a try. I was not disappointed, it sexy, scary, swift.
I liked all the characters, even Sam, who I didn't like at first.
Its a shame its a stand alone book , I would like to see more Bannon.
As someone said on twitter "it took by breath away"
I loved it.
Enjoyed this read
very much, sex and crime together are a winner if it's well written as this is,
had me gripped until the end, good characters, loved Robyn and the way her
online life was described, anyone who has ever used a dating site will be
laughing hard and nodding in agreement at this part of the book, absolutely
bang on. A fast, funny sexy and shocking read, I'd happily recommend this book.
Torn between 4 and 5 star rating this, but it's getting 4 because I would have
liked it to be longer, only took a couple of hours to read, and I would have
loved more background, especially on the killer and how and why he became what
I've now read all three of Derick’s
books , the first two were so funny I laughed out load, I expected the same of
ASPHYXIA but it was different not so much laughing I really enjoyed it , Derick
characters have a life of their own , you really get to know them.
Keep up the good work!

Trick for Hudson, 30
This may seem such a
departure for the author when you look at the front cover, but its written in
the same witty way that I've come to expect from dysfunctional romance and the
unholy romance author.
Lots of authors are formulaic and you know what's going to happen before it
does (Dan Brown), but this author has a way of story telling and making each
book fresh and even though the subject matter on sexual fetishes may not
immediately appeal to some readers, I implore you to read if you want a good
appears to be able to take sensitive subject matters and make them funny.
I loved the relationship of amateur sleuths Sam Greer and Damien Hand, they had
me laughing out loud and the way that Hudson can write in a female voice is
exceptional and I really want a "Hands off the merchandise" banner.
Well done Mr Hudson, can't wait for Infallible and I have a slight smugness in
that I can say, I've followed this author since the beginning and not just
jumped on the band wagon.
If you love Irish wit and a good story, get your library stocked with asphyxia
(and the back catalogue too)
I have read both of
Derick's previous novels and enjoyed them immensely. But this book was so
different from the others but, absolutely the most enthralling thriller that I
have read to date. What made it so great was it's characters and the way that
Derick had them all inter-acting!! If you love a good read and a page-turning
thriller - this is it... Derick --- Can't wait to see what you have in store
for us next!!! I will be waiting patiently - well, not that patiently!! Thank
you for another of your gems!!

With the help of a young, vocationally-challenged nun, a weakening Abe finally

What an outstanding
read ! Sharp and witty dialog in a fantastic story of a dying man and a Nun who
refused to allow him to die. Abe Sheridan is slowly but painfully dying. Sister
Isabelle takes an interest in Abe and refuses in allowing Abe to think of not
living. Abe and Isabelle go on some exciting adventures to say the least ! The
ending was not expected and a nice twist. Do not miss this book ! 5 stars out
of 5 ! Had a ball reading it. Very hard to put down once I started reading it !
Hopefully the author Derick Hudson will have a follow up with more adventures
of Abe and Isabelle ! Read this book !!!

put it down! (didn't put it down!!!), 17 Nov 2013
This is the first
book I have read by Derick Hudson, I love a crime thriller and Infallible
ticked all of the boxes. The humour had me hooked from the start and was a
great touch throughout. I loved the unconventional relationships that evolved
along the way and made me love the book even more.
The twisted details that are always part of a crime novel went that step
further and had me gripped from the start. The attention to detail when it came
to the gore was also a page turner!
I didn't intend to sit and read the whole book in one go but I could not put it
down! (I didn't put it down!)
I would love to see a sequel :)
This book is
sublimely brilliant. One of the most enjoyable books ever. Mr Hudson's
characters are, as always. so well defined. It explores subjects that some may
find offensive. I'm not one of those people. I have a dark, twisted mind so
this story was right up my alley. Congratulations Mr Hudson for continuing to
entertain & challenge us.. .
Once again a totally
un-putdownable book by Derick Hudson. The storyline was full of twists,
entertaining and kept you in suspense until the very end. Loved the
characteristics of the slightly wayward nun. This is the 4th book I've bought
written by Derick and every single one has had me totally mesmerised. Bring on
the next one.
Derick Hudson's Infallible was
an awesome read! I was on the edge of my seat from the first few pages. I
finished reading this book in one day, could not put it down!! I highly
recommend this book, you will not be disappointed!! Fantastic job!!!

compulsive, page turner from Derick Hudson.
After reading all of Hudson's
previous books I find he just gets better and better. A totally gripping read
containing romance, child abduction, murder, religon and so much more. Not for
the easily offended. Written with feeling with laugh out loud moments peppered
through the book. Completely action packed, starting off well paced then racing
off at 100 miles an hour with everything happening all at once car cell leaving
tome for you to catch your breath and take stock of the story line.
If this is your first Derick Hudson book then you must also read his other
books. An inspirational, unique author with a talent that surpasses others.
My first read by this
author-and I don't know what I was expecting, but it certainly wasn't this. I
was immediately hooked-such a page turner, I read through the night as I
couldn't put the book down. High praise for Derick
Hudson-joining the exclusive list of my faves Lee Child & James Patterson.
The story keeps you gripped from the very beginning..and the author now has me
eagerly awaiting his next novel. WELL DONE, TOP READ x
5.0 out of 5 stars Another fantastic read, 21 Oct 2013
This is another book
from Derick Hudson that the reader will find impossible to put down. The
serious topics of cancer, child abuse, abduction & murder are put on paper
with totally wicked humour. If you are easily offended by blasphemy, tough!!
This is tongue in cheek & as in the author's previous two novels, every
page has laugh out loud moments. Just the thing to cheer you up on the long
When I started to
read Infallible I thought it wasn't going to have a happy outcome but not only
did it tug at my heart strings it also made me laugh too. The characters, Abe
especially are so easy to love can't wait for the next one!! This book is an
all rounder whatever your preferences are.
Infallible is full of
intrigue, deception, obsession and gore with a little bit of romance too. If
you want a gripping read, this is it. Couldn't put it down once I had started.
Confirms what I have always believed too. That to err is human!
From the start, this book just dive bombed into me.
Everything just goes on and happens all at once. I didn't have chance to
breathe. Before you can grasp the whole picture, it jut assaults you with more.
There's a bit of non-rude sexiness with a Nun. Yeh I know. That's what I said.
There's blood, violence and damn right evilness. Which goes hand in hand with a
book about religious matters:)
The characters are plain mental. And you could believe that this stuff actually
goes on in real life. (Well, that's a whole other story)
So. This is my second book from Mr H. And I'm not disappointed. It has
eveything i want in a story. Saucy Nuns is a bonus.
And for certain I will buy the rest of his books for sure.
Having read all of
Derick's previous novels, I was expecting another great read. WOW, did I get
more that I ever imagined. I sat down to read just the start of this tale and
ended about 2 hrs. later, having finished one of the most captivating novels I
have ever read. Not for the faint-of-heart, but if you want a story that makes
you keep turning the pages simply because the reader has to see what happens
next - this is the one for you. When you find a writer who can write
"tongue-in-cheek" novels and "edge-of-your-seat" novels
equally as well - WHAT A TREASURE!!! Can't wait to see what he has in store for
his readers next..... Derick, truly a great spine-tingling read!!!!!
what a great book. it
has it all, romance, murder, religion. its funny, touching and grizzly all at
the same time. if you enjoyed the funniness of dysfunctional romance and unholy
romance and the gruesomeness of asphyxia you'll love it. a one sitting read you
wont want to put it down.

Derick: Dysfunctional Romance
This absolutely hilarious book is a compelling read. With
both protagonists having to grapple with a variety of psychological disorders
manifesting in various behavioural patterns something akin to
compulsive/obsessive, these unfortunates tailor their life styles accordingly.
This requires total absorption, for the most part they manage to accommodate
their quirky behaviour fairly efficiently, for the reader, however, it
generates an intensification of humour, compounding the compulsion to laugh
throughout the whole side-splitting story.
Derrick Hudson creates strong, believable characters in Barry Shaw and Sandra
Wiggins. Of course they’re both looking for love and we are introduced to them
in their work places. Barry Shaw being a talented advertising executive while
Sandra Wiggins faces her clientele down the phone line addressing
insurance claims. Think ‘work’ and the reader will instantly identify with all
those anomalies, misjudgements, dirty dealings, favouritisms, innuendoes, that
fall from the power structure to stir, anger and motivate the general work
force into ‘getting their own back’ whether it be subtle or overt! Not to
mention the inherent rivalry and hilarious interactions of the highly
competitive, disparate and just plain odd, creating a set of characters
always having their eye on the top. Thus, to a greater or lesser extent Hudson identifies the
familiar in each of the differing work situations. He has an eye for detail and
an ability to feel the mind-set of each of his characters.
One feels one has gained hilarious insight into each of these work situations
where Hudson largely gives the reader access through the sexual perceptions of
the characters, needless to say with great hilarity. In particular, being party
to the client brief Barry Shaw and his colleagues need to address in the board
room, is one of the funniest things I’ve ever read. It certainly has the power
to enlighten the female reader and had me in absolute stitches. Whilst Hudson doesn’t pull any
punches regarding the anatomy of either sex, it’s not gratuitous but integral
to the action and it’s absolutely impossible to take offence.
humorous slant is delivered with such precision as to have all his readers
laughing all the way to the end. His ability to factor such hilarious astute
life observations into his writing with such credibility is indeed a rare
talent, for this is a brilliant, down to earth story tempered with romantic
interlude that one has a compulsion to continue – a very difficult one to put
down. The reader’s drawn into following the protagonists developing
relationship with considerable empathy. Once these crack-dodging pavement
walkers meet, the story unfolds with unexpected twists and turns, her mum and
dad, his dad, the fortune-teller, the postman that refuses to enter the
graveyard surrounding Shaw’s converted church dwelling; whilst all the time the
sub-plot, Sandra Wiggins’ best friend envying her, taking the fast, less
romantic route to love. This story bounces along all the way to the end. It’s
very cleverly written for the author has an exceptional talent in being able to
draw in and hold the reader at every turn of the page. It’s a well constructed,
easy to read story, sheer entertainment from start to finish. I highly
recommend this book for it will leave the reader not only with a ‘feel good’
factor but most definitely wanting more.
